A rapidly scaling SaaS startup was looking to hire its first Controller to oversee financial operations such as revenue recognition, subscription billing, financial reporting, and SaaS-specific metrics like MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue) and CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost). 

However, the founders lacked the expertise to properly assess candidates' qualifications in these critical accounting areas. They were unsure if candidates fully understood the nuances of SaaS accounting and whether they could navigate complex financial reporting standards such as ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers). 

We partnered with the SaaS startup to provide our expert interviews service, sitting alongside their team to evaluate the accounting qualifications of potential Controllers. 

Our interview process included deep-dive questions into their experience with SaaS financial models, cash flow forecasting, FP&A, and revenue recognition under ASC 606. This collaborative process ensured that the startup could evaluate candidates' technical skills in real time, while benefiting from our expertise in accounting and finance.

We then provided the company with detailed feedback on each candidate’s ability to manage financial controls, automation of SaaS revenue systems, and how well they could handle scalability as the company grew.

Within just one week, we conducted expert interviews with the top 10 candidates shortlisted by the startup. Based on our detailed evaluations, we helped the company identify the Controller who had the strongest background in SaaS accounting and experience with scaling financial operations.
